The Importance of After-School Programs

As I travel House District 46 and speak with people at their doorstep, one concern that repeats itself is the need for after-school programs. As a parent of two, I know from first-hand experience the need for keeping our children occupied with positive activities outside of school.

A couple weeks ago, we stopped by the YMCA of Clay County to meet with Deb Plummer, Director of After-School Programs at the YMCA. We learned about the programs available for residents of Clay County and took a tour of the impressive facility. Sadly, southern Clay County does not have the same access to the YMCA's activities as those in Brazil. I hope we can build on the great program the YMCA of Clay County has and expand the operation to include all residents of Clay County. Our visit was covered by the Brazil Times. Earlier this week, we also took the opportunity to visit the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club. I am a Board Member here and can tell you that the work we do is absolutely essential for a strong community. To learn more please click on the links below:

There are many important issues out there, but one is certainly providing the children of our community the proper activities to channel their energy. Until next time, take care!
